Hello! I’m glad you’re here. Feel free to look around and make yourself at home.
Taking the long road home began a few years ago as a way of dipping my toe in the blogosphere. Why the name? I found inspiration in the lyrics of the Dixie Chicks 2006 hit, “Taking the Long Way Around.”
Well, I fought with a stranger and I met myself
I opened my mouth and I heard myself
It can get pretty lonely when you show yourself
Guess I could have made it easier on myself . . .
Well, I never seem to do it like anybody else
About 8 years ago I found myself at a crossroads of a sort. I wasn’t happy and pretty much spent my time feeling powerless and anxious. I was struggling in just about every area in my life. Then one day I decided I’d had enough. It was time to take control and stop living at the mercy of every situation life presented.
Since that day, I’ve gradually made a ton of changes in how I live, work, and love. Change hasn’t come easily, but the more I find my voice and express myself honestly and directly, the healthier and more resilient I become. I don’t have some huge goal in mind, because chasing perfection is simply crazy-making and impossible. Rather, I try and find joy and demonstrate gratitude in small, everyday moments. This has brought an inner joy and peace to my life I never thought I’d have.
I hope you’ll find something here that resonates with you. Above all, may you have peace.
